The Akron Jewelry & Metals Club, through The University of Akron, is hosting visiting artist and metalsmith Caitie Sellers April 16-April 18, 2015.
Sellers is currently a co-director and resident artist at Clamp Light Artist Studios and Gallery in San Antonio, Texas. She received her BFA in Craft/Material Studies from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia. She was chosen to speak at the 2012 Society of North American Goldsmiths’ conference as a Spotlight Emerging Artist and was a finalist for the Society for Contemporary Craft’s LEAP Award. Sellers was also a recent Artist-in-Residence at the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft.
Caitie Sellers will be giving a lecture on her artwork at UA’s Myers School of Art on Thursday, April 16 at 7pm. On Friday, April 17, she is giving a Professional Practices for Artists lecture at 12 noon. Both lectures will be in the Folk Hall Auditorium, room 165 and are open to the public. On Saturday, April 18, Sellers is conducting a workshop on soldering steel and silver three-dimensionally from 10am-5pm in the Metalsmithing Studio, room 190. Members of the public are welcome to come and watch, but only current UA metalsmithing students are able to participate in the workshop.
Caitie Sellers will also be available for one-on-one critiques with students during the day on Friday. Sign-ups for critiques and the workshop are outside of the Metalsmithing Studio.
